Winter skin care is a very important topic because we all have to deal with the cold weather and it has a negative impact on our skin. If you don’t take good care of your skin in this period of time, you will notice some unwanted changes such as dryness, itchiness and eczema.
In order to avoid these issues, you should follow this winter skin care routine at home that includes 4 steps: cleanse, moisturize, exfoliate and protect.
It’s important to use the right cleanser for your skin.
The next step is to scrub away the dead skin. This will help get rid of any flakiness, dry patches, or dead cells on your body, leaving it supple and smooth. To do this, use a gentle exfoliator. Using circular motions with your hands or a soft loofah sponge (or something similar), gently rub it all over any areas that need some extra love—your knees, elbows, ankles and feet are ideal places to start! You may even want to add a little bit of oil or lotion if you have particularly dry skin where you live.
Moisturizing is essential for keeping your skin healthy, and there are many ways to do it. You can use a lotion-based moisturizer, but cream-based ones will be better for you in the winter months. A good cream-based moisturizer should have at least 30% glycerin and be hypoallergenic. It should also contain SPF if you’re going outside after applying it (which you definitely should).
You’ll want to apply your moisturizer twice daily: once in the morning before going out into the cold and again at night before bedtime. Be sure not to use too much; start with a small amount on each hand or foot and then rub it into your face gently until absorbed by your skin.
The number four spot on my list is to use an overnight mask. I’d recommend using a hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, collagen or alpha hydroxy acid-based one. These ingredients are known for their ability to plump up skin and prevent dehydration. They can be quite affordable or relatively high-end—the choice is yours!
If you really want to go all out with your winter skin care routine at home, I would also consider adding retinol into the mix (just remember that this will make your skin sensitive to the sun).
Steaming is the perfect way to treat your skin when it’s dry and flaky, as it helps open up pores and remove dead skin. It also reduces redness and inflammation, which can help you look like you’re glowing from within (it’s definitely better than breaking out in a rash). Just make sure to do this at home instead of getting a facial because those can be pricey.
You can use a face mist as a toner, to hydrate your skin and set makeup. You may even find that you like using it to refresh your skin throughout the day.
Face mists are great for all these things because they have a higher concentration of ingredients than most products on the market. This means that they don’t need to be used in large amounts, which is especially important if you’re trying out an unfamiliar product or brand for the first time. Some people prefer using a spray bottle full of water instead of purchasing a whole new product just for this purpose.
As you can see, winter skin care is not as complicated as it may seem. With these simple steps and a few minutes each day, your skin will be glowing throughout the season.
